An opportunity for young people to learn new skills and experience a career for a day
William Angliss Institute, as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, is offering young people aged 14-18 the opportunity to experience foods and hospitality careers for a day. This unique program will give participants a hands-on feel for working life as a chef, baker, waiter, barista, confectioner or patissier.
Trial-a-Trade day promises to be fun, affordable, and a great opportunity for young people to learn new skills, and explore the broad range of career options in the foods and hospitality industries.
If you know a young person who is interested in a career in the foods or hospitality industries, encourage them to attend William Angliss Institute’s Trial-a-Trade day. Priced at only $28 per Trial-a-Trade participant, this is a fun and engaging opportunity for young people and their families to learn more about their career opportunities in the foods and hospitality industries.

Cookery
The Trial-a-Trade Cookery program gives participants the opportunity to experience William Angliss Institute’s state-of-the art industrial kitchens. A chef will work with participants to develop basic cooking skills and prepare delicious treats. This is a good opportunity for participants to experience working life in a commercial kitchen and learn more about careers in the cookery field. |
Hospitality
Trial-a-Trade Hospitality is an opportunity for participants to develop basic hospitality skills and learn more about careers in the hospitality industry. Participants will also learn the basics of making a great coffee in the Coffee Academy. |
Bakery
The Trial-a-Trade Baking program gives participants the opportunity to learn basic baking skills. A professional baker will work with participants and together they will produce delicious baked goods, and learn about the wide range of career opportunities in baking. |
Patisserie
A patissier will work with participants to develop some basic patisserie skills. This is a good opportunity for participants to experience working life in a patisserie and learn more about the creative career opportunities available in the patisserie field. |
Confectionery
The confectionery industry offers a huge range of career options for students who are interested in the science behind food, and the technology involved in creating confectionery. They will learn how to make solid and hollow chocolate moulded products.
