The spa industry has exploded into prominence over the past several years and is now recognised as a high-yield segment of the global tourism industry. An abundance of spa-dedicated media and international conventions now exist, highlighting the massive industry growth and the opportunities that this presents.

Many spa operations are now multi-million dollar enterprises operating multiple facilities in several countries. Efficient, trained management is fundamental to the success of such operations.

Managers are expected to have:

  • strategic skills in human resource management,
  • sales and marketing and,
  • financial management capabilities.

Working with major product companies, resorts spa specialists and Melbourne’s internationally renowned Elly Lukas Beauty Therapy College, Resort Management graduates are uniquely positioned to take up employment in the spa industry around the globe.

Hospitality training includes:
  • food & beverage
  • first aid
  • resort reception services
  • office procedures and
  • safety and risk procedures.

Business training includes:
  • financial
  • legal
  • marketing
  • HR and property studies

In their first year all students attend a Queensland industry study tour where they apply the skills learned and view best practice industry operators at work. Topics covered will include tour guiding and industry experience in spa operations. In second year an optional overseas tour is available so that students can observe international best practice operators in the field and attend targeted industry events.

In second year subjects are oriented towards management and students will have the option to join Spaan overseas study tour.

Students are trained in areas including relaxation massage, manicure, pedicure and facial services, aromatherapy and many treatments such as body wraps, hot stone treatments, salt scrubs, foot soaks and many others to provide a foundation for further on-the-job training in their place of employment.

Students complete a training program in the Li’Tya range of indigenous spa products. Each session consists of a two-day trip to Hepburn Spa near Daylesford in Victoria’s spa country. The program will include facial and body treatments using the Li’Tya products, as well as training in the Li’Tya philosophy – a holistic approach encompassing not only the physical but also the spiritual and environmental health and wellbeing.
