William Angliss Institute

Sarah's making the most of a career at Club Med

Tourism graduate Sarah Hugo is living her dream combining work and travel at Club Med working with guests and helping to make their experiences memorable.

As a specialist provider, William Angliss Institute offered Sarah many opportunities through extracurricular activities and other experiences both on and off campus to extend her professional networks and support career development.

Sarah said she chose to study at William Angliss Institute after she realised that she didn’t want to work in an office for the rest of her life and with travel as a hobby she decided to make it her career.

Studying the Diploma of Holiday Parks and Resort Management specialising in Scuba Diving meant Sarah was employed after graduating by the resort company Club Med.

She worked as Assistant reception manager for her first year on the Indonesian island of Bintan and the following year as Tree Top Supervisor at the Club Med in Malaysia, Cherating Beach.

“As you can see Club Med allows you to travel, explore and gain experience in a wide variety of areas. Not only are you required to complete your professional role and tasks during its operation hours, you are also encouraged and required to partake in the atmosphere of the hotel. This includes dining with the guests and creating long lasting friendships and impacting their stay in a unique way.

“Furthermore, I was involved in the nightly shows performing on stage and also in the wide range of after events from dance parties to group trivia. It is a non-stop but highly rewarding and an incredible place to live and work!

“I can't complain about being able to continue to work and advance in my career whilst living a holiday and travelling the world at the same time,” Sarah said.
Sarah said William Angliss Institute is well renowned in the tourism and hospitality industries, which helped her chances of post-graduate jobs.

“My studies gave me experience directly from those in the industry with subjects that are relevant and practical and allowed me to make connections, gain skills and knowledge and feel confident in using with the practice we had through in-house placements.
“Also the industry trip to Fiji, open days and talks from industry professionals inspired and motivated us to believe that we have the ability create a job and life we are proud of and importantly enjoy!
“I plan to continue travelling and working forming connections and gaining important work and life skills. In the long term I have recently been looking into jobs training hotel staff and in particular local staff in countries in the Asia Pacific Region. Through Club Med I have mostly enjoyed being able to make a difference by passing on my experience and knowledge to others,” Sarah said.
