William Angliss Institute

Angliss finalist in the NT Training Awards

William Angliss Institute and Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia were one of three finalists in the Industry Collaboration category at the 2018 Northern Territory Training awards.

Voyages works with the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) who have contracted William Angliss Institute to provide enterprise based accredited training offering pathways for Indigenous people into sustainable employment in the hospitality industry across Australia.

Nationally accredited hospitality training, along with assistance to develop personal resources and resilience, assists students to graduate from the program and transition to guaranteed employment at the resort at the end of their training.

One of Australia’s first such training programs, this unique program allows students to earn industry-standard trainee wages while they work towards formal qualifications.

Trainees come from a diverse range of Indigenous communities both locally and nationally.  Participation in the accredited programs offered by the NITA provides a ‘life changing experience’ for these young people through providing them with the opportunity to acquire employment while undertaking a nationally recognised qualification.

Seven years later and with more than 288 tourism and hospitality graduates, the Indigenous workforce at ARR has increased from less than one per cent in 2011 to 37 per cent in 2017 which can be attributed to the collaboration between William Angliss Institute and Voyages.

“William Angliss Instititute have been Voyages NITA preferred training provider since 2011. Trainees are employed by Voyages when undertaking training and are guaranteed ongoing employment on successful completion of their traineeship.  In June this year, NITA will be celebrating three intakes of trainees who are graduating with industry recognised qualifications coupled with valuable enterprise based training. The three intakes have achieved a combined completion rate of 90%. Angliss provide tailored training services to meet our industry and individuals’ needs with undisputable professionalism. In addition to supporting traineeships, Angliss have been a major contributor to the development and delivery of our Indigenous leadership programs supporting Indigenous employees into leadership and management roles at ARR.” Executive General Manager Indigenous Employment and Training Voyages Bob Harvey said.
