William Angliss Institute is approved to deliver Food Handlers Training by interactive video chat or virtual classroom technology for the duration of the Victorian Declared State of Emergency for coronavirus (COVID-19). This amendment to the approved delivery method aims to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students, industry compliance and support for businesses impacted by the coronavirus. Course content and maximum class size are not affected by this amendment to delivery method.
To enrol in Food Handlers Short Course via zoom , please note you will need the following:
The trainer will need to have visual and audio confirmation of your presence in the course; the class requires two way oral and visual communication between students and the trainer.
It is essential for you to be seen and heard, so you will need a working camera and a microphone on your device (lap top , PC or tablet) to enable observation of your assessment by the trainer; this is a course requirement.
The microphone capability is needed as the trainer may ask you questions, and will be seeking your verbal/ spoken responses (course requirements). Please address the microphone and camera requirements by testing your devices prior to joining the training session. We appreciate punctuality.
The online Food Handlers Course Via Zoom runs for 7 hours; you will need 7 hours stable, unlimited , continuous internet access.
Suitable equipment for a course of this duration; a mobile phone is not recommended, as this type of training drains a lot of power on your phone.
A Food Handler is anyone who works in a food business and who either handles food or surfaces that are likely to be in contact with food such as cutlery, plates and bowls. A food handler may do many different things for a food business. Examples include making, cooking, preparing, serving, packing, displaying and storing food. Food handlers can also be involved in manufacturing, producing, collecting, extracting, processing, transporting, delivering, thawing or preserving food.
Australian Food Safety Standard 3.2.2 (Food Safety Practices and General Requirements) requires that people who handle food and the people who supervise them have the skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene for the work they do. The aim of the Food Handlers course is:
1- To learn about correct storage temperatures
2- Dealing with 'danger' foods
3- Persona Hygiene
4- Cleaning food preparation areas and
5- Pest control.
The assessment quiz comprises 40 questions which must be completed in one sitting (there is no option to save your answers and return to the assessment at a later time).
You have 2 attempts to complete the assessment. You need to achieve 100% to be deemed satisfactory in this task.
Upon the successful completion of the online food safety training, and submission and review of your portfolio, you will be emailed a confirmation letter of successful completion.
The portfolio will consist of completing the following:
1- Personal presentation photograph and explanation
2- Hazard report
3- Cross contamination photograph and explanation
4- Hand washing video
Post Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, once the WAI campus re-opens, a hard copy version of the SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety certificate and a workbook will be posted to participants.
