Academic Profile - Belinda Daly

Lecturer Tourism and Ecotourism

Biography

Belinda Daly has a long and established career spanning over 30 years in two major sectors - Education and Nature-based tourism. Belinda's career to date has seen her work within the environment sector, as the South-east Qld Senior Interpretation Officer within national parks. Here she coordinated and managed areas including Visitor Services, Interpretation and Commercial tourism opportunities, including accreditation programs.

Belinda has also worked in the Education sector as a Principal and Senior teacher, leading the development and delivery of environmental, sustainable, heritage and indigenous programs in natural and cultural sites. She has been involved in ARC research in outdoor learning pedagogy and continues to engage with research for heritage sites in Qld.

Currently, Belinda coordinates the Bachelor of Ecotourism course at William Angliss Institute, is engaged in scholarship focusing on Authentic Learning within Higher Education and is on the Reconciliation Action Plan committee.

Areas of Expertise

  • Statewide Interpretive Planning, sourcing of funding and project management of numerous on-park projects.
  • Liaison with and delivery of Accreditation programs for Commercial Operators, Local tour operators, community groups and on-park rangers to deliver sustainable, high-quality on-park tourism experiences.
  • Collaboration with local indigenous groups in the development and delivery of indigenous cultural material to ensure cultural appropriateness.
  • Development of interpretive displays, signs and information centres to provide visitors with accurate information and to promote conservation of the park.
  • Management of Centre operations, strategic planning, curriculum development, sustainability, budgeting and reporting.
  • Industry and education partnerships to access expertise, train commercial operators and develop mutual projects. Leader of schools towards the creation of a Sustainable Environmental Management Plan and associated on-ground sustainable actions.
  • ARC Research into outdoor experiential pedagogy, conducting qualitative research and the writing of a book chapter.
  • Curriculum and program development in areas including Drama-in-Theatre programs in cultural heritage sites, STEM, Indigenous and Marine conservation for Primary, Secondary and adult groups.
  • 5th Pedagogy / Outdoor Learning Pedagogy

  • Authentic Learning pedagogy in Higher Education.
