The interactive Eligibility Checker on our main page gives you a quick indication based on TRA rules. Below are the detailed eligibility criteria.
General Requirements
You must:
- Be working in one of the nominated occupations: Baker, Cook, Chef, or Pastrycook.
- Meet the minimum experience requirements (detailed below).
- Hold a passport from a TRA-nominated country for TSS, or be eligible / opt-in for OSAP.
Detailed Experience Requirements
For Baker, Cook, or Pastrycook:
- With formal training → minimum 3 years total full-time relevant paid experience
- Without formal training → minimum 5 years total full-time relevant paid experience
- Demonstrate at least 12 months of full-time paid employment in the nominated occupation within the last 3 years prior to application.
For Chef or Pastry Chef:
- At least 12 months in a senior role with supervisory or management responsibilities
- Overall cumulative experience: minimum 3 years (with formal training) or 5 years (without formal training), showing clear progression to senior positions
- Demonstrate at least 12 months of full-time paid employment in the nominated occupation within the last 3 years prior to application.
Important Note on OSAP
Those who do not belong to a TRA-nominated country may still opt-in for OSAP if required by the Department of Home Affairs or if they wish to apply under the program.
