Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault and Gender-Based Violence

William Angliss Institute is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive and equitable environment for all students, employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors.

The Institute has a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment, sexual assault and all forms of gender-based violence. These behaviours are unacceptable, may constitute criminal offences, and are inconsistent with the values of respect, dignity, safety and equality that underpin our community.

We recognise that sexual harassment and sexual assault can affect people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds. Every member of the William Angliss community has the right to learn, work and participate in Institute activities free from unwanted sexual behaviour, intimidation, coercion, discrimination and violence.

  • Sexual harassment is any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that causes, or is likely to cause, a person to feel offended, humiliated, intimidated or unsafe.
  • Sexual assault is any sexual act, behaviour or conduct that occurs without a person's free and voluntary consent.

Examples of sexual harassment, sexual assault or related misconduct may include:

  • inappropriate comments, intrusive questions or unwanted attention of a sexual nature
  • offensive sexual comments, jokes or gestures
  • unwanted touching, kissing, hugging or other physical contact
  • repeated requests for dates or personal contact after refusal
  • sharing, displaying or creating sexually explicit material without consent
  • leering, staring or other intimidating sexual behaviour
  • voyeurism or observing people without their consent while they are undressing, naked or engaged in private activities
