Interested in aviation (cabin crew), hospitality management, tourism, cookery or patisserie? If you’re a year 11 or 12 student, William Angliss Institute offers a range of flexible programs.
VCAL is an alternative learning stream for year 11 and 12 students. It provides a pathway for you if you do not want to complete a VCE or are interested in a particular career and need a practical approach to training and development.
The accredited secondary certificate gives you literacy and numeracy skills, plus the chance to build up personal life skills that are vital in the workplace. This hands-on approach will suit you especially if you prefer to learn by doing, rather than reading.
As a VCAL student you will complete your course on campus, with small class sizes to ensure mentorship and close relationships with your peers. You will be responsible for driving your own learning to be best prepared for the working environment post-study.
On graduation, you will receive the VCAL at an Intermediate or Senior level depending on competencies achieved, as well as accredited units of competency from your chosen industry.
The four compulsory VCAL strands are literacy and numeracy skills; work related skills; industry specific skills and personal development skills.
Industry specific skills include
- Cookery – Certificate II in Kitchen Operations
- Food and beverage – Certificate II in Hospitality
- Tourism – Certificate II in Tourism
- Youth Pathways – five specialised industry streams (Aviation (cabin crew) Hospitality Management, Tourism, Cookery and Patisserie)”
The William Angliss Institute VCAL newsletter is published each term by our VCAL students to keep people up to date with their studies. Please see below for recent issues.
