Celebrating 60 Years of Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award with Emerging Talent
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the prestigious Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award brought together 24 of Victoria’s brightest young chefs for a thrilling cook-off at our Melbourne campus.
As Australia’s longest-running culinary competition for young chefs, the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award helps shape future foodservice leaders through hands-on experience and industry recognition, opening doors to unique, career-making opportunities.
Congratulations to the highest scorer plus gold medal winner and apprentice at JUNI Melbourne Enoch Chan who will join 11 other talented finalists from across Australia and New Zealand to compete in the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award Grand Final held at Sydney’s Fine Food Australia this September.
William Angliss Institute has partnered with Nestlé Professional since before the competition began, providing our students with opportunities to polish and showcase their skills.
Nestlé Professional Executive Chef and Golden Chef judge, Elke Travers said, “For 60 years, the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award has been about providing a platform for emerging chefs and supporting our future hospitality leaders.
“The standard of dishes created by these young chefs, demonstrating culinary creativity and technique beyond their years, is truly inspiring and shows the immense talent in Victoria,” added Elke.
Of the fifteen Angliss students who competed in the Victoria cook-off, eight received silver and seven received bronze medals. Working across Melbourne’s hospitality venues such as Nobu and Maison Bâtard, they included students from Australia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Silver Medallist and Angliss cookery student Jade McArthur, who works at RACV City Club, got a taste for competitions earlier this year. “I discovered an appreciation for developing my skills by competing regularly. I decided to enter the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award competition because it is world standard and I strive to compete against the best.”
Congratulations to all our students keeping an eye on the prize just like our alumni Jimmy Han did in 2023 when crowned the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award - Golden Chef of the Year.
The Australian Culinary Federation judging panel rates each dish to globally recognised culinary standards and you can keep up to date with the competition on Facebook or Instagram.
