From Classroom to Creative Director: Rocco Trimboli’s Journey in Events
For William Angliss Institute graduate Rocco Trimboli, the dynamic world of events and hospitality offered the perfect blend of energy, creativity and fast-paced excitement. His student experience was enriched by the opportunity to connect with like-minded, passionate individuals.
“I chose William Angliss Institute because it’s recognised as the leader in training for tourism, hospitality and events,” Rocco said. “If I was going to take this career seriously, I knew I had to learn from the best.”
The industry-active teachers at Angliss made a lasting impression on Rocco, sharing real-world insights that brought learning to life. “They didn’t just teach theory, they shared current trends, challenges and opportunities. That kind of perspective is invaluable,” he explained.
By completing both the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management and the Diploma of Event Management, Rocco gained a well-rounded skillset to manage every aspect of an event, from concept development to execution. “Angliss was the ideal launchpad,” he said. “The mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge helped shape the career I have today.”
Rocco’s career gained momentum through early opportunities provided by Angliss to work on major events like the Spring Racing Carnival and the Australian Formula One Grand Prix. “That experience gave me confidence to grow in fast-paced environments,” he said. “Thanks to those connections, I was invited back to manage corporate facilities for clients like Channel 10, Lavazza and the Victorian Government.”
Career Path to En Pointe Events
Rocco’s career began at the esteemed Richmond Hill Café & Larder, under the mentorship of culinary icon Stephanie Alexander AO. “Progressing to Restaurant Manager, I had the opportunity to work on special events with celebrated chefs including Maggie Beer, Kylie Kwong and Tony Tan,” he said.
His involvement with international events like the Formula One Grand Prix and Spring Racing Carnival led to an event management role at Bright Young Things, where he became General Manager. A subsequent move to Engage by Disegno allowed him to expand into brand activations and experiential marketing.
Today, as Creative Director and Owner of En Pointe Events, Rocco leads a creative company known for producing immersive, design-led events for leading Australian brands, including the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival’s World’s Longest Lunch and Brunch. “We specialise in creating experiences that don’t just look beautiful but also align with brand identity and purpose. I approach each event like a Disney Imagineer, paying attention to every detail, from scent in the air to lighting.
Rocco is enthusiastic about multi-sensory, emotionally driven experiences, whether for a public activation or brand launch. “That moment when a concept becomes reality and guests are engaging with it - that’s the magic,” he shared.
“The best part of my job is the opportunity to collaborate with our clients and their brands to fuse storytelling and strategy into every event,” he explained. No two days are ever the same and that constant evolution keeps me inspired.”
He credits his time at Angliss for instilling strong foundations in planning, timelines, budgeting and customer experience, skills that continue to support him delivering logistically sound events that resonate with guests.
Mentorship and Looking Ahead
Rocco is equally committed to mentoring emerging talent, particularly fellow Angliss graduates. “It’s been a privilege to hire and work with Angliss graduates, some who started as volunteers and are now full-time producers with us. They come equipped with confidence, real-world knowledge and professionalism,” he said.
He also enjoys working with Angliss students at events like the MFWF World’s Longest Lunch and Brunch appreciating their curiosity and willingness to learn. “I want to help shape the next generation of bold, thoughtful, and future-focused event professionals.”
His advice for future students? “Say yes to opportunities. Whether it’s volunteering, internships, casual event crew work, or helping with passion projects. Make connections and find what sets you apart because the events industry rewards originality and energy.”
As En Pointe celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Rocco is now focused on national growth, international inspiration, and meaningful mentorship. “We’re scaling up and pushing creative boundaries. I also plan to travel more to research global trends and continue bringing fresh ideas to the Australian market.” There’s even a chance he might return to William Angliss Institute in a different capacity. “I always joke that one day I’ll end up back at William Angliss Institute but on the other side of the classroom, teaching.”
