Scholarship award winners announced

Scholarships were awarded to 22 William Angliss Institute students generously provided by a variety of industry partners and the William Angliss Institute Foundation.

The overwhelming response to scholarship offers have been that of gratitude, pride and emotion, with International Merit Scholarship recipient Serena Cieri even saying “I was so happy to receive the scholarship that I started to cry”.

The scholarships are designed to assist students’ with their studies and ultimately help them achieve education ambitions, with many already putting them to good use.

Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality student Chung Soon Chong, recipient of the Sir William Angliss Higher Education Scholarship, has used his award to attend a study tour of Spain where he will fulfil a lifelong ambition of experiencing different cultures and observing tourism impacts.

Courtney Fleming, recipient of the Sir William Angliss VET Scholarship, has been able to invest in her training while Samuel Sean James May, who received the Hostplus Indigenous Scholarship, has taken the chance to purchase new culinary equipment.

“This opportunity has made my day-to-day tasks a lot more efficient, with more opportunities throughout my day to learn more skills,” Samuel said.

The scholarships are a real motivation for students, with the recipient of The Sir William Angliss Higher Education Scholarship, Georgie Karavis remarking that “the scholarship has been a great source of pride, and has given me the confidence to approach this semester with more enthusiasm than ever”.

Duc Thi Tan Nguyen, the recipient of the Australian Leisure Hotel Group Scholarship, also commented that winning the scholarship has shown her that hard work does pay off.
