Angliss grads ready to take on the world

William Angliss Institute held graduation ceremonies at the La Trobe Street campus this week, celebrating the accomplishments of 240 graduating students across its speciality areas of foods, tourism, hospitality, events and hotel management.

The Institute was particularly proud to welcome back graduates as keynote speakers.
Sharon Calleja works for the Lancemore Group at the Mansion Hotel & Spa in Werribee Park as Wedding & Events Sales Manager.
“The Institute taught me a wide variety of skills in which are vital to succeeding in the real work place including my creativity to think on my feet, management reporting tools and the importance of customer satisfaction and service. These skills helped me continue progressing my career and I encourage you to utilise all you have learnt,” Sharon said.

Connie Yuen who manages the team at the Nestle KitKat Chocolatory assured cookery and patisserie, bakery and food science graduates to pursue every opportunity to learn and shared her journey from office manager to chocolate patissier.
“My favourite moment of the week was eating cake at Le Petite Gateau and I visited so often I became friends with chef Pierrick Boyer who recommended William Angliss Institute and I left my comfortable job of seven years to follow my passion,” Connie said.

Connie encouraged alumni to use all the tools they have and to take all the volunteer experience they can because it’s hard to get that first job without any experience.
“I used the power of social media to research the head chefs at all the patisseries where I thought I wanted to work and then introduced myself to them which led to my first job,” Connie said.

2017 aviation graduate Shanaya Hedley who is now working as a flight attendant for Virgin Australia inspired graduands of tourism and events with her story of persistence and personal growth at the Institute culminating in her achieving her dream of travel and working combined.

“Celebrating our students’ success, seeing the hard work rewarded with a qualification that will start them on their career is always exciting and a good reminder why we strive to do ourbest for these young people. We thank our industry partnerships and sponsors as we couldn’t do this without them,” said William Angliss Institute CEO Nicholas Hunt.

The support and insights of our industry partners is incredibly important to provide graduates with training that is relevant to their needs.

Major industry partners such as Nestle Professional, Fonterra, Peerless Foods and Robot Coupe support the students throughout the year and many others enable the Institute to provide additional opportunities to recognise the development of skills and knowledge through sponsored awards.
