Young butchers head to Ireland for World Challenge

William Angliss Institute butchery graduates Caleb Sundqvist from South Australia and Jimmy Neville from Victoria have won the opportunity to compete and represent Australia at the 2018 World Butchers' Challenge in Ireland in March.

They competed in the National Meat Industry Training Advisory Council Limited (MINTRAC) competition against the best butchery apprentices from around the country to win their places.

Caleb and Jimmy will participate in a study tour and compete in the young butchers segment of the competition and join a team of ten representing Australia in Belfast.

They recently did some additional practice in the Angliss butchery kitchens and received some tips from Angliss expert patisserie teacher chef Gauthier Oger for the baked pastry items.

With more than 75 years training experience in butchery William Angliss Institute has a proud history in teaching the next generation.

The courses provide students with intensive meat preparation and handling skills which will equip them with specialist knowledge in working with meat production in the kitchen and butchery environment.
